Urban Gardening in Action at Garinger High School

Jake Bachman and Lucas Shires of ColeJenest & Stone have teamed with Ms. Bobbie Mabe to work on the Garinger Urban Farm Collective. Garinger High School is located approximately 3.5 miles from Uptown Charlotte and the Collaborative is a partnership between Friendship Gardens, 100 Gardens and Garinger High School that aims to offer students enriched, hands-on learning experiences across all areas of study; vocational skills and experience through on-site internships; and increased interaction and environmental advocacy within the community.  Jacob, Lucas and Bobbie collaborated to prepare a site plan and preliminary budget for submittal to the Jimmie Johnson Foundation/Lowe’s Toolbox for Education Champions Grant.  This grant, if received, will provide funding for the urban farm initiative including an outdoor kitchen/demonstration area, amphitheater, outdoor learning center, and infrastructural improvements.

Within the site, there is a three-acre urban farm operated by Friendship Gardens.  Friendship Gardens will host a grand opening event April 26th, 2014 for their urban farm.  For more information on the event, please visit their Urban Farm webpage at
