NC State Design Presents: 12th Annual Urban Design Forum

Growing IN Place Symposium

Green Neighborhood Assets: Streets, Houses, Schools, Parks, Food.

Thursday, March 5, 2015, 9:00am-4:30pm

Marbles Kids Museum

Families with children not wanting to move to low-density suburbs need neighborhoods and an urban public realm designed to support culturally diverse, socially stimulating, healthy lifestyles. Growing IN Place addresses planning and design policies that support these needs for children and other family members. Young people need networks of attractive, walkable/bikable routes connecting homes to schools, parks, community gardens, and cultural institutions – where they can engage with nature.

Join us for this focus on urban community/neighborhood design for health, sustainability, and well being of children and families.

Cities in the Mid-South region face dramatic change in demographics, population growth and increasing frequency of severe climate impacts. Planning and designing for resilience will help cities survive, adapt and grow as changes in demographics, population growth and severe climate impacts affect demands on our built environments. NC State Design’s 2015 Urban Design Conference will examine topics critical to designing resilient cities, including infrastructure, transportation systems, and water and energy resources.
