Business and Industry Building and Conference Center Earns LEED Gold

The Guilford Technical Community College Business and Industry Building and Conference Center on the college’s Northwest Donald W. Cameron Campus has recently earned the prestigious honor of US Green Building Council's LEED Gold status. The 94,000-square-foot building cost $48 million and opened in August. It has a 250-seat auditorium with a catering kitchen. For students, there’s lab space, seven classrooms and a model warehouse with modern distribution equipment. The building also is home to the N.C. Center for Global Logistics, a collaboration between GTCC and the community colleges in Davidson, Forsyth and Randolph counties. The center helps to develop workers for the logistics and supply chain industry. The B&I building, as the college calls it, is the first facility on the 102-acre Cameron Campus off N.C. 68 in northwest Guilford County. In its first year, the building has held training for eight Triad companies, including Procter & Gamble, Honda Aircraft Co. and Ecolab. Training included leadership skills, manufacturing skills and project management. The building also has hosted meetings of the GTCC Board of Trustees and the Guilford County Board of Commissioners. ColeJenest & Stone worked with the Perkins Eastman team to provide landscape architecture services incorporating innovative stormwater solutions and native landscape plantings.
