U.S. National Whitewater Center

ColeJenest & Stone provided civil engineering and landscape architecture services for the U.S. National Whitewater Center, located along the scenic Catawba River where Interstates 85 and 485 intersect. 

The site is 270-acres of woodlands and varied terrain offering spectacular views of the Catawba River. 

The center offers a variety of elements including: a multiple channel artificial river that can be modified to different skill levels, the “natural” river, a 37-acre island for primitive camping, a high adventure center with indoor/outdoor climbing facilities, trails for mountain-biking, running and hiking, a boat house for storage, restrooms and changing facilities, fully guided rafting trips, boat dock and launching areas, picnic shelters, multi-level observation towers, restaurant and conference room meeting facilities, natural banked (“green grass”) seating for spectators at events, facilities for firefighters to conduct swift water rescue training sessions, and a stage for outdoor concerts and entertainment
