ColeJenest & Stone provided civil engineering and landscape architecture services for the $265 million New Charlotte Arena, which is located between Trade Street and Fifth Street in the center of downtown Charlotte.
It is uniquely located on a nine-acre parcel two blocks from center city and adjacent to the proposed Charlotte Area Transit System’s lightrail station and tracks.
The building is 780,000 SF with seating for up to 20,000.
ColeJenest & Stone was responsible for the landscaping and streetscape along Trade and Fifth Streets as well as the plaza area. The design included plant material, sidewalk paving design, hardscape and site furnishings.
ColeJenest & Stone also worked closely in coordination with the consultants on pedestrian and traffic circulation, irrigation, site lighting, artwork, rail integration, security, arena architects, MEP and structural issues and also on the Fifth Street relocation. Civil engineering services included grading, drainage, erosion control and utility service connections.
ColeJenest & Stone was also involved in the permitting process, which was on the City’s Fast-Track schedule. The process involved submittal and coordination of multiple permit sets including mass excavation package and foundation package; all involved working closely with Charlotte Engineering and Property Management, Charlotte Department of Transportation and Charlotte-Mecklenburg Planning Commission.
